So another year, another Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival.
Last year was our debut on the XPONorth Seedlings Stage, and this year we had the fairly rapid step up and huge privilege of opening the Festival on the Garden Stage on Thursday, but ironically playing to arguably a smaller audience from a stage 5 times the size.
With an earlier start on the Thursday designed to entice people on-site earlier and ease traffic congestion, we appreciated that the number of folk ready to rock at that time would perhaps be thinner on the ground. It was possibly also too early for any liquid-fuelled impulse-buying of Thursday upgrades that would give access to the Garden arena. We’d like to think there were clamouring ‘Tooth fans just over the fence wishing they had an upgrade, but hey… A few folk we spoke to afterwards said it sounded great from the car park and campsite.
It wasn’t an easy gig to sell a performance right up to the back of a 10,000 capacity arena with plenty of green space in between but we gave it a good go. No doubt we could learn a bit from young loons like The Hunna who were dervishes in the HotHouse on Saturday. But if you are going to cut your teeth on a huge stage with a mammoth PA then it’s an ideal chance to do it when it’s a bit quieter, and it only gives us more ambition to do better, in front of more people, with a smile on our face. In a year where the music was excellent and eclectic as always, the Rock was quite hard to find and we appreciate our musical approach is not in keeping with the times. But there are people out there who will listen to rock (without bagpipes), so we need to find them.
Massive thanks to Dougie and Steve at Team Bella and to Ally, Garr, the other Dougie and the whole team on the Garden Stage who looked after us very well. And an even bigger thank you to everyone who busted their asses to get into the arena by 1pm on Thursday and see us, including Ian who took this video of our newest song, No Evidence.
We’re delighted to announce that we have been asked to play the main (Garden) stage on Thursday 4th August at the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival. As our local and favourite festival it’s a big honour and we can’t wait to get the festival rocking. We’re on pretty early at 1pm so given the traffic problems on the Thursday last year we hope you will get along early to see us!
Summer time, and other tales
It’s probably time for some news. After a few successful gigs earlier in the year inlcuding a riotous time at the Market Bar last month, we are gearing up for the summer, just in case it ever arrives. First up is a gig on the 22nd July at Mad Hatters Inverness, with Hymn for Her. Apparently Def Leppard were scheduled to appear but had to pull out.
Pete’s so excited he’s put some new pickups on his SG, a set of Bare Knuckle mules since you ask.
We’re down to the last 30 EPs – once they are gone, they are gone – so make sure to snap one up if you see us. Work has already started on songs for the next record, with debate over any older tunes that might also make the cut also taking place. Hit us up on Twitter or Facebook if you have any thoughts…
New Shows Announced
Happy New Year!
We’ve updated the site with some new shows and we’re booking more gigs as we speak that will be announced soon, which should give us a chance to unveil the new songs we’ve been working on. We’re delighted to be opening up SCBU Stock this year which is a great night for a great cause and sure to sell out – it did last year – so get your tickets now. Topping the bill are the ever excellent Lional, and it’s being organised by our good buddy Dr Wook who’s also playing.
Thanks for listening.
“Spiders” and Free’s “Fire and Water” Live
Filmed at the excellent Jocktoberfest earlier this month, Spiders from the EP and our (so far) favourite cover, Fire and Water by Free. We’re hoping to get some of your photos put up in a gallery soon as well so if you have any, send them in!
Our Belladrum warm-up show takes place tonight at Mad Hatters, Inverness. Unfortunately Hotel Moskva have had to drop out and support will now come from local band All So Simple. Showtime is at half past 10, we hope you can make it along.
The new EPs have arrived and will be on sale at the XpoNorth showcase tomorrow night (Thursday 11th), at Blackfriars on Academy Street, Inverness, 9pm-9.30pm. Price is a mere fiver! You can find a preview of the first couple of tracks on the player to the bottom right of the page.
UPDATE (11/6): The EP is now also available digitally through iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and many other fine online music stores.
We’re expecting the first (only?) batch of EP CDs tomorrow, which means they should be here in time for the gig on Thursday. The price will be £5, for 5 songs or if you can’t make it along email us, for £6 we’ll post one out to you (UK postage, overseas ask for a price).
XpoNorthLive Beard Off
Rory and Pete popped into the XpoNorthLive makeshift studio for a live acoustic session and a chat. There was also an impromptu and perhaps unsuccessful attempt to start a beard hashtag trending at this year’s festival. Pete was disbarred on the grounds of being merely unshaven. We think there may be more photos, video and audio out there…
